Body Circles

One slow, glorious lighthouse sweep of the whole torso.

Circle your upper body in a wide arc — forward, to the side, back, and around — arms following like a compass needle.

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet wide and knees soft, arms hanging.
  2. Fold gently forward, then sweep your torso and arms around to one side.
  3. Continue the circle back and around to the other side.
  4. Finish the circle and reverse direction.

Breathing: Inhale as you circle up and back, exhale as you sweep down and forward.

Questions

I get slightly dizzy — is that normal?

A little, especially before breakfast. Make the circle smaller and slower, and keep your eyes on the horizon rather than following your hands.

Which direction first?

Either. The routine gives equal counts to each direction, which is what keeps the movement balanced.

Radio Taiso is gentle, but it is still exercise. If you have a medical condition, an injury, or any doubt, check with a health professional before starting.
